Born in Riga, Latvia in 1985, Germans Ermics studied in Denmark then went on to hone his graphic design skills as an art director at the Latvian culture magazine Veto. At the same time, he began studying at the Design Academy Eindhoven, in the Man & Living department, where his primary focus was on furniture and interiors. Before graduating in 2011, Ermics interned at Studio Robert Stadler in Paris, and in September 2014, he launched his own studio in Amsterdam.
In Ermics’ work, he explores an ongoing fascination with glass and mirrors. Colors take on enormous proportions in his work, to the point where the materials they’re applied to either seem more exciting than they ever have before, or disappear entirely in the viewer’s consciousness. At Sight Unseen OFFSITE, he will debut a production version of his Ombré Mirrors and will create an installation that conveys the feeling of being in a glass workshop or construction site.
